The cleaning requirement of each environment is unique. For maintaining carpets in homes, all you may need is light-duty carpet cleaning equipment. In the case of high-traffic zones such as retail stores, malls or theaters, you need to be armed with more powerful versions. Let us take a look at the specific carpet maintenance needs in theaters and the right kind of carpet cleaning machines to use.

Proven Cleaning Efficiency

Theaters generally include vast carpeted areas. For this reason, the carpet extractor must be durable, highly efficient, reliable, and incur minimal maintenance issues. Carpet cleaning machines must also be capable of deep cleaning carpets and making them available for use as soon as possible, preferably in a matter of hours.

Advanced versions of carpet cleaning units from leading suppliers come in heated and non-heated versions. For use in theaters, it is highly recommended to use heated versions of carpet cleaning machines that use extremely hot water to soften dirt deposits and stains. It is also helpful if the carpet extractor comes with powerful extraction capabilities. This feature lifts the dirt and stain from deep within the rug, offering a more complete removal.

Innovative Cleaning Functions

Sometimes, theaters may feature delicate carpets that cannot stand extremely high temperatures. However, the latest versions of carpet cleaning systems come with adjustable temperature options and will help you set the perfect temperature for each kind of carpet. With accurate temperature settings, you can clean a variety or delicate and heavy duty durable rugs without risking damage.

Theater settings feature many nooks, corners, and inaccessible spots, such as the carpeted areas under seats. Using traditional carpet cleaning machines will not help remove all traces of dust and dirt from those hard-to-reach spots. For this reason, renowned distributors now present a range of attachments and accessories along with their commercial carpet cleaners. These attachments also come in handy for other jobs such as detailing vehicle interiors or spot cleaning upholstery.

The Amazing Low Flow Function

Low moisture technology is a notable function of the best carpet cleaners. Because a very low volume of water is utilized during the cleaning session, carpets do not get too wet. As a result, these carpet shampooers enable carpets to be completely dry in just two to six hours. Lower water usage also protects delicate carpet fibers from potential damage and helps extend the lives of rugs.

As mentioned before, commercial carpet cleaners chosen for use in theaters must be able to deliver clean and dry rugs within a few hours. This is exactly what low flow carpet cleaners offer you. Lower drying periods also offer a range of other benefits. Because less water is used, there is little risk of mold or mildew attacks on the rugs. The thorough drying process offered by low flow carpet shampooers also ensures odor-free rugs.

To put it simply, the latest versions of heated carpet cleaning machines with cutting-edge low flow technology are the best choices for use in theaters. They offer the results you need in a quick and efficient manner.

When it is time to choose the right color palette for your home, many people who prefer brighter, bolder colors, incorrectly assume that the colors they favor would not suit the home they live in. They would then stick to more subtle paint color palettes to be safe, but that need not be the case.

It does not matter whether the home is new or not. The colors of the rooms within your home need to bring out your personality. Though many new or recently purchased homes are painted within the neutral color palettes, they don’t have to remain that way. You can experiment and explore different hues to bring vibrancy or relaxation within your owned space.

Picking the Right Paint Colors

The first thing that any homeowner needs to consider when choosing a color palette is what inspires them. What sort of emotions does he or she want to evoke in that particular room, especially if guests are being entertained in there? For a family room, perhaps some may feel that midnight blue would be ideal. The den or office might be more practical in shades of brown or even red while a bedroom could run a wide range of emotional paint color palettes.

Your room should be a bespoke expression of your character and personality, and the right color palette creator will do just that for you, making the shade unique.

Choosing Your Color Scheme

As mentioned, each room in your home would be personal to you. The color palette, or scheme will need to take into account the functionality of the room, the furnishings and furniture that will reside in the room, and whether you prefer to have contrast or complements of colors. From walls to trimmings, wainscoting and more, the last thing that you want to do is choose one flat color for every inch of the room.

A good color scheme will actually use shades of different colors to highlight the subtle or dominant tones of a particular color palette and bring dimension and depth. For example, a pale brown with yellow trimmings will bring out the yellow as the main color, while using white will soften the yellow.

Consider Your Lighting

Color is a reflection of light, and it changes under various lighting. Therefore, you need to pay special attention to the lighting within the room. For bright overhead lighting, the color on the walls will tend to bounce off more, reflecting off everything else. If you choose a deep red shade for the living room, and have white furnishings, then these furnishings may take on a pink undertone when exposed to bright light.

If you have softer lighting, then lighter colors will complement as opposed to bold shades.

Benefits of Using Paint Color Palettes

Many paint manufacturers offer customers standard paint color palettes. These palettes allow you to see how various colors can give you unexpected combinations even against the furnishings in your home. These paint color palettes are a handy way to experiment. While there are seven basic colors, the combinations and permutations to choose from are endless. Deciding that blue would be the ideal choice for your kitchen may be a great selection, but finding the perfect shade will make it feel as though it is a part of you. Paint color palettes prove to be a cost efficient way to find the ideal paint colors for your home.

The pump is the heart of your pool water system, circulating water so that it can be filtered, heated, cleaned and chemically treated. A pool without a pump is useless. It is important then that when you either replace or install a pump for the first time that it is sized correctly. It is essential that the pump is neither too big nor too small, as there can be problems associated with both, such as insufficient filtration or the creation of too much pressure on the pipe work or filter installation. The aim is to install a pump which will filter your entire pool water volume every 6 to 8 hours, depending on the swimming load.

If replacing an existing pump, it is tempting to just install the same size as the original. For this to work it depends on the original being correct in the first place. Consequently, it is worth doing the correct sizing exercise regardless.

The factors that need to be considered can be summed up as “flow rate” and “head”.

The flow rate is the amount of water moved in a given time, usually expressed in gallons per minute. To work out your required flow rate you first need to work out your pool volume. For these formulae, take the measurements in feet. To work out the average depth, add the deepest depth to the shallowest depth and divide by two.

Pool Volumes.

Rectangular Pool: Length x Width x Average Depth x 6.25 = Gallons

Round Pool: Radius x Radius x Average Depth x 20 = Gallons

Shaped or Oval Pools: Avg Width x Avg Length x Avg Depth x 6.25 = Gallons

When you have worked out the pool volume, set a turnover time. It is recommended that this is every 6 hours, but can be varied depending on the bather load. If we assume turnover required is six hours then the flow rate in hours is the volume divided by 6.To express this in gallons per minute, divide this further by 60.

Having worked out the flow rate that we need, we then have to look at the head loss, which is a measure of the resistance, for example friction in pipe work, that the water will encounter on its journey around the circulation system.

This is very difficult to do, and is only theoretically possible on new builds. There are very many variables and too many unknowns. For example, to be 100% accurate you would need to know exactly how many feet of pipe you have, exactly how many joints, where they are, who manufactured them, what they are made of, etc, etc.

In reality, it is only possible to make a good estimate. It is accepted in the industry that for most pools an average “head” is 10m or 33ft. This will usually be reasonably accurate for most pools where the pump is situated no more than 30 feet from the pool, and on the same level. Take this 10m figure as a starting point and adjust upwards or downwards if there are any unusual features, such as the pump on a lower level.

Once we have calculated the required flow rate, and estimated the head, then we need to look at the pump curve charts provided by the pump supplier.

On the vertical axis the scale is measured in “Feet Head” or “Metres Head”, whilst the horizontal scale is “Flow Rate”. At the point where your two readings cross, go to the next pump curve up. That is then the pump you require.

Nowadays everybody wants to make their outdoor living space more “livable” and more like an outdoor room and extension of the living space inside the home. It’s a great idea, and when it comes to furnishing that outdoor space, there is so much to choose from that it can be quite mind boggling.

Even if your outdoor space it not exposed to the weather, you might want to consider buying furniture that is weatherproof as it will last longer and offer more flexibility in the future if you decide to use an area that has little or no shelter from the elements.

Most people want to have some chairs and maybe a dining set for al fresco meals, plus accessories, rugs, cushions and plants to round out the picture and really create an outdoor room.

Most outdoor furniture is made out of aluminium or resin, and comes in a variety of colours and finishes, some of which are made to look like wood or wicker – the days of plastic furniture for outdoors are long gone as far more elegant, attractive and better wearing materials have taken their place.

Before settling on furniture, think of the colour that would be most appropriate – dark browns and greens tend to be most popular, but you can have white or black or various other colours that may work better for you, and then you can add cushions made with weatherproof fabrics to add the real colour and drama to the space.

Then, of course, there are the floor coverings. Just because it’s an outdoor space doesn’t mean that you can’t have a fabulous rug on the floor – a fully weatherproof rug that is made specifically for outdoor use that is. The designs and colours are limitless, so whatever colour theme you have chosen, you will be able to find something fabulous to go on the floor and tie it all together.

And what about accessories? Perhaps some kind of heater, maybe a few nice planters, funky urns and even a water feature to provide that wonderful calming ambiance than the sound of running water does so well.

A fire pit or chiminea not only look great and help to heat an outdoor space, but the ambiance created from a fire cannot be beaten, especially when the evenings have started to get nippy. But a fire pit or chiminea are not just for heating and ambiance, as you can use them to toast the odd marshmallow too – talk about gathering around the camp fire!

There you have it – lots of ideas for making your outdoor “living room” an attractive, functional and long lasting space for you to enjoy for many years.

If you’re like a lot of our clients you have probably surfed countless websites looking at thousands of house plans without finding anything that suits the unique needs or dynamics of your family.

Well here are a few practical tips or options that might make your search a lot easier.

Make sure that your taste and needs match your budget. This means if you have a budget of $ 200,000 you shouldn’t be looking for a 3500 sqft house plan. That only leaves you with a building budget of $ 57/sqft. In today’s market non-competitive market where trades and builders are in high demand it’s not uncommon to find homes being built around the $ 200/sqft range, so budget accordingly. Also don’t try to find a four bedroom house with a family room, living room, dining room, breakfast nook, large kitchen in a 1600 sqft home, I’ll never find it and if you do the room will be so small I’ll feel like you’re living in a mobile home (no offence to anyone living in a mobile home, they have their uses).

Don’t limit your search to a specific house type or number of bedrooms. The reason I say this is that any floor plan can be designed into any style of home, or a bedroom can be easily added without compromising the style of the home. Remember form follows function. Most home plan designers offering stock plans online also offer plan modifications or even custom design services for not much more then stock plans. Remember it is much wiser to invest a few hundred dollars extra in the planning stages to get a plan that suits your needs.

Look at the big picture. Look at the general flow of the plan not the specifics. For example are the rooms facing the right direction? Is the master bedroom where you would like it in relation to the other bedrooms? Etc. Like I stated earlier most house plans can easily be modified by the designer. Also a lot of builders are able to customize the smaller details during construction without the requirement for revised plans. Yes some so called pundits will tell you that the plans should be as precise as possible in order to avoid errors during construction. Don’t get me wrong the small thing need to be addressed prior to construction but not necessarily always at the house plan stage. If having designed over three thousand homes in my career as thought me anything is that the final product is never exactly the same as what was originally drawn by the designer. Furthermore, if you are dealing with a reputable and well organized builder he will be able to anticipate and coordinate any on-site modifications prior and during construction. Remember drawings are intended as a general guide to illustrate the overall design of the home and necessarily the specific details like specific window sizes, finishes, cabinetry etc. If you are looking at having the home designer involved in the full design process before and during construction it’s going to cost you a lot more than a few thousand dollars and there are niche markets for that sort of service.

Don’t fall in love with a picture. This means if you see a picture of a house whether real or rendered don’t expect that your house will end up looking like the picture. ( especially if the picture is not associated with a specific plan or the plan you are selecting) This is particularly true if the picture is a rendering. Most designers add a great deal of extras and fancy architectural detailing when preparing their renderings. Most of the time does features are can be very costly because of things like product availability or labor intensity. Remember like all other industries the home plans industry uses effective marketing to sell their plans. After all there not going to sell plans with mediocre pictures.

If you’re reading this in the States, I’m probably preaching to the converted, but you will be surprised to hear that chimney dampers are all but unheard of here in the U.K. I’ve been involved in chimney/fireplace consultancy for nearly 15 years and I’m amazed this simple technology has not yet become a part of standard fireplace and flue design in my country.

Most people have never looked up their chimney; many have no idea that vast quantities of their expensively heated air are flowing through that fireplace, up the flue, and into the atmosphere 24/7 whether the fire’s lit or not. The fact is that leaving a flue open all year round is really no different to leaving an upstairs window open, come rain or shine.

Ironically, when the weather turns cold, people will often start to go round the house looking for the gaps around doors, windows, and even keyholes that are letting the draughts in, and trying to plug them, without much thought to where the draught is going to! Very often its the chimney that’s driving the draught, sucking that cold air into your centrally heated home.

In the U.K, building regulations specify that permanently open, dedicated ventilation should be provided for every open fire equal in area to half the cross sectional area of the flue. While homeowners are frequently appalled by the prospect of such a gaping hole in their living room, a fire does need to “breathe” and improvements in home heating efficiency such as carpets, double glazing, and draught proof doors mean we can longer rely on a purely adventitious air supply. Adequate ventilation need not be the cause of any discomfort if correctly located, especially if a chimney damper is fitted to the flue, preventing unnecessary draughts and heat loss when the fire is not in use.

When the fire is lit an appropriately sized vent will supply the air necessary for combustion, and to allow the chimney to draw; ideally it should not be within the fireplace, but on the same side of the room as the fireplace, so that the incoming cold air doesn’t cut across everyone’s ankles as it’s drawn to and through the fireplace opening and up the chimney. In fact, allowing the fire to “breathe” easily through this vent will tend to stop it having to suck air from further afield, through doors, windows or down other chimneys in the property, and improve comfort levels. Vents within the fireplace are less than desirable, as they may blow ash and smoke around and out of the fireplace; there is also a beneficial effect on the draw resulting from the incoming air coming through the fireplace opening, tending to draw smoke with it.

As the cost of heating our homes soars with escalating fuel prices, and the effect our wasteful habits are having on the environment become ever more evident, energy efficiency is no longer just an issue for green activists, but for all of us. For many, installation of a woodburning stove is the obvious choice, but in Great Britain we are lucky enough to have a rich architectural heritage of splendid open fires, and there is a good argument for preserving them, if we can minimize their negative impact on home heating efficiency. While woodburning or multifuel stoves have an important role to play, fitting them correctly very often involves lining the flue which is not only a costly operation for the customer, but can be irreversible, preventing use of the fireplace as an open fire in the future, and altering the character of the room forever. Those who have several fireplaces may well choose to have a stove fitted in one fireplace as their main supplementary heat source, and fit dampers to their other fireplaces, especially if the alternative is to permanently cap the chimney.

For fireplaces that are expected to be used on a very occasional basis, d.i.y. solutions can help. I often see plastic bags of fibreglass or bubblewrap stuffed into flues! There are also purpose made balloons and the like on the market but for more regular use, most would not choose to have to remove and store any form of sooty chimney plug every time they have a fire. It’s also worth noting that it’s good practice to allow a trickle of air to flow up the chimney, to prevent condensation, and/or a flue so cold it will be hard to re establish an updraught on lighting a fire.

Whenever possible, the ideal solution is to fit a purpose made chimney damper that the householder can instantly open and close at will, with no fuss or mess. The benefits in comfort and reduced fuel bills will make it an investment that pays for itself a lot faster than most in the home improvement sector. Dampers can be fitted at the top, or bottom of the flue, and there are pros and cons for both styles, but often the geometry of the fireplace and chimney, and the relative difficulty of access to the top of the chimney stack will be the deciding factor.

One reason the U.K. has been slow to adopt chimney dampers is undoubtedly the variety and age of our housing stock, meaning that off the shelf products may not be suitable for many homes, and it should be noted that if a poorly sized damper is fitted that, in its open position reduces the flue area significantly, it may lead to a smoking fire.

There are also many British fireplaces struggling to draw through the addition of a chimney pot. Although seen as “traditional” by many, they’re really a Victorian invention, suited to the smaller fireplaces popular from that period onwards. I’ve lost count of the times I’ve been asked to look at smoking fireplaces, and looked up the chimney to see a nicely constructed gather, and a good sized flue, which is abruptly reduced to less than ½ its area by an 8″ or 9″ pot, which itself is often partially obscured by slates or whatever other bearers the fitter has used during construction.

The combination of turbulence caused by the abrupt change in section and the physical restriction of the small outlet often causes these fireplaces to smoke unnecessarily. Another common “problem fireplace” is the 3′squarish opening revealed by keen homeowners who think they’ve peeled back the layers of history to find the original fireplace. What they’ve actually found is the builder’s opening, never intended to function as fireplace, but to accept a cooking range or Victorian style insert fireplace, built with a flue to match these more modest proportions.

In fireplaces where the flue outlet errs towards the undersized, I would not advise fitting a damper to the existing terminal. If access, and planning considerations allow, open it up, and extend the stack if necessary, or fit a bigger pot if you must, and fit a damper while you’re up there. Otherwise, try to fit a damper in the gather just above the fireplace lintel.

Chimney top dampers have the advantage of keeping birds and weather out of the chimney, as well as maintaining a warmish flue. On the downside are issues of access and working at heights, and the possibility of mechanical failure in the “remote control” operating system. (normally stainless steel cable or chain)

Fireplace dampers normally give you failsafe and visible mechanical opening and closing, and can be fitted without access to the top of the chimney, but are deceptively tricky to design and fit so they don’t foul the walls of the flue as they open, or overly restrict the egress of smoke from the fire below. Fitting is an awkward and sooty job…and if there isn’t a good bird guard up top, twigs and soot displaced by weather and bird activity can accumulate to get dumped on the hearth when the damper’s opened. By the way – mesh stretched across the top of the chimney is NOT a bird guard. It’s a perch/social amenity for our feathered friends to gather on while they keep warm, de-louse, defecate, and practice twig throwing! A good bird guard has a smooth, solid, ideally angled (to shed rain/snow and make perching a chore) top, and mesh sides.

I look forward to the day the majority of U.K. homes have dampers fitted to all their open fires, and predict that in years to come these devices will become as integral to responsible and shrewd home heating management as a well insulated loft, or double glazed windows.

Chimney dampers may not be fitted to flues serving gas fires in the U.K, nor may a gas fire be fitted to a flue or fireplace incorporating a damper unless rendered inoperable. The damper on a solid fuel/wood fire should not be closed unless the fire is out and cold!

The carpets in your home put up with a lot of strain every single day, from a variety of feet stomping over them, to pets covering them in mud, and kids spilling drinks. If you have a high quality carpet, it should last for many years provided that you give it the necessary care and maintenance.

If you talk to professional carpet cleaners you will more than likely hear them singing the praises of regular vacuuming. Vacuuming is an absolutely essential part of maintain your carpet as it prevents loose soil and dirt being ground in to the fibres, and it also preserves them and helps them stand back up once they have been stood on. New carpets have that fluffy and luxurious feel to them, regular vacuuming can help keep this ‘newness’ for much longer.

Vacuuming is not only beneficial to the carpets themselves, but also your living environment in the home. By vacuuming on a regular basis you are picking all the bacteria and allergens that would otherwise be pushed deeper into your carpets, and potentially cause allergic infections, or irritate asthma.

By now you have probably started to understand just how important regular vacuuming is in your home, it can prevent health problems and save you money by protecting your carpets. However, vacuuming is only one part of carpet maintenance, the other is steam cleaning.

Steam cleaning, or hot water extraction, is something that needs to be done around once a year to give your carpets a thorough clean. The frequency of steam cleaning will depend on how busy your household is, for example a large family with three children, two dogs, and a cat will need to clean their carpets more often than a professional couple who spend the majority of their time out of the house.

Every carpet requires steam cleaning, this cleans the areas that vacuuming simply cannot reach. The cleaning solutions are pumped into the carpets, working any stubborn stains to loosen them, and picking up other soils and germs from the backing. High powered machinery is then used to extract the solution and debris up from the carpets, leaving behind much healthier and cleaner carpets.

Vacuuming works alongside steam carpet cleaning to ensure that your carpets are kept in a better condition for longer, that you have a clean and healthy living environment, and that you won’t need to replace your carpets prematurely. These small things can save you a lot of money in the long run as good quality carpets can last for twenty years or more.

When you’re searching for new appliances, you have to consider several different factors prior to purchasing. The below article provides you with some of these factors to keep in your mind before you purchase an appliance.

An extremely important aspect of choosing an appliance is whether it is energy efficient or not. You don’t want to purchase an appliance that uses up a lot of energy, regardless of how cheap it is. Eventually, these higher electric costs will add up big time. By purchasing an appliance that is very energy efficient, even if it is very pricey, the savings you will have will be very large.

You need to consider whether the appliance is new or used. Depending on the circumstance, sometimes it is better to buy it brand new, and sometimes it is better to buy it used. If the appliance is new, runs very well, and is relatively cheap, you may want to consider purchasing a new appliance. However, if you can get these same features with a used appliance that is even cheaper, you may want to consider purchasing it used. You just need to shop around, and decide what is the best for you.

You need to do some research on appliances to determine if there are any potential manufacturer defects. If there are defects, you need to stay away from purchasing this appliance. If you can’t find any defects, then you should be safe to purchase the appliance.

You should check all the appliances to determine if there are any dents in it. Sometimes, dents can be a bad sign that it will not work correctly. However, there may be other times that a very minuscule dent does not really matter. You just need to check it out for any dents, and if there are dents, you must determine whether or not they are a problem.

Probably the most important factor is whether or not the appliance that you are thinking about purchasing will actually do what it says it will do. For example, you wouldn’t want a dish washer that doesn’t effectively wash dishes. The same goes for a dryer that still leaves your clothes wet. Therefore, you should test out a product prior to purchasing to ensure that it will work effectively.

The last thing you should keep in mind when purchasing an appliance is if it’s in a price range that you can afford. You don’t need to purchase an appliance that is too expensive for your needs, regardless of how well it may work. There are all types of appliances that exist. With all the various types, you are certain to find one that will work for you that is in your budget. You just need to perform some research in order to find it.

As the above article has demonstrated, purchasing appliances can be extremely confusing. However, if you research some prior to purchasing, you can avoid the pitfalls of purchasing on your impulse. Just keep in mind the good and bad things about a certain appliances, and put in a lot of thought before purchasing. By doing this, you are certain to make the right decision.
